The aionav® app concept revolutionizes the use and development of apps in multiple ways:

  • Absolutely no programming is necessary to create an app. The “Copy-Paste“ of any kind of multimedia content by the means of one single input mask is enough. And the same database can be used for Android and iOS.
  • Functionality and the Graphical User Interface (GUI) are separated from the content, i.e. arbitrary information can be represented and worked on with one single parameterized GUI.
  • The GUI contains all necessary functionalities for challenging apps like e.g. filters, search, navigate, display of multimedia content, synchronisation with other data bases as well as the direct use of other smartphone functions.
  • Contents are stored in a local, freely structurable database, i.e. apps can be used autonomously as well as with a connection to the web.
  • The multimedia content (Points of Information, POIs) can be represented and displayed in lists or on any kind of graphical background, as for example on images, georeferenced maps or floor plans (with several floors).
  • The created apps work in an interactive way, i.e. the app user can add its own multimedia content to each POI and share the information immediately in social media.

AIONAV Systems AG (derived from "Autonomous Indoor and Outdoor Navigation") was founded in 2011 as a spin-off from Graz University of Technology, based in Berne. The developer team of founder Ulrich Walder, former head of the Institute of Construction Informatics at Graz University of Technology, includes Thomas Bernoulli, Martin Krammer and Philipp Rausch. In addition to the aionav app technology, the autonomous indoor and outdoornavigation is one of the development priorities of the company.

The roots of the SciencePark Graz start-up are the development of the autonomous indoor and outdoornavigation system, which has been patented since 2011. In 2011, the TU team won the internationally-awarded order "Soldier of the 21st century" of the European Defense in the area of 3D positioning Agency. An ultramobile, arm-mounted PC with touch screen and an external sensor enable the positioning of forces, which can be tracked via a control center. As a long-term strategic partner, RUAG Holding AG, a Swiss technology group in the aerospace, defense and security sectors, supports product development. Apart from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Swiss Army or the MDA Corporation, a Canadian aerospace group, also use the positioning test systems developed in Graz. Research co-operation in various areas has existed with numerous universities and industrial partners.

The beginning of the commercialization of these positioning expertise via app use was part of the "Shopping of the Future" project for MIGROS, the largest retail trade company in Switzerland.
